The plate tectonic setting of Taiwan has resulted in a complex and varied topography, with mountains, hills, plains, basins, islands, valleys and coasts, and rich species. The proportion of endemic species is very high in Taiwan, accounting for more than 20% of the nearly 18,400 wildlife species, such as cherry salmon, Taiwan monkey, Taiwan black bear, and blue-bellied pheasant, making Taiwan one of the world's most important places for conservation.

Besides, the diverse ethnic groups including Minnan, Hakka, foreigners and aborigines have formed a colorful culture in Taiwan. Taiwanese, Hakka, Hunan, Sichuan, Japanese and Korean cuisine, as well as traditional snacks and local specialties, present a diverse and rich culinary feast, making Taiwan's reputation as the "Kingdom of Gourmet".
